Japan-Focused Top 50 Games Research: Studio Production, Sequels and Long-Running Titles

The August 2026 Japan-focused research compares fifty supplier titles led by Aviator, Sweet Bonanza and Sugar Rush, without treating the scores as domestic player demand.

AskSpinner Japan Top 50 casino games market research report, August 2026 historical snapshot.

Aviator, Sweet Bonanza and Sugar Rush lead AskSpinner’s August 21, 2026 Japan-focused games research list, at 105.14, 89.70 and 73.88 respectively. The full fifty-title comparison is useful for examining supplier catalogues: sequels, live studio shows, cross-market partnerships and older games that remain part of a wider product history.

These research scores are not percentages or a verified ranking of games played in Japan. Japan-specific search estimates are available for only three of the 50 titles, so this is a catalogue-research list, not a domestic popularity ranking. Online casino gambling from within Japan is a crime; this is neutral industry research, not a recommendation to play.

Japan: supplier mix. 50 game entries in this research list; game-entry count. Snapshot 21 Aug 2026.

Supplier counts across 50 games in AskSpinner’s Japan research list, 21 Aug 2026.

Aviator and other crash products

Aviator’s global monthly core search estimate was 6,300, compared with a local estimate of 40. The game launched in February 2019. Its August 2019 version 2.0 update focused on consistent mobile and desktop experiences, performance on low-end devices and weak networks, and social features including chat with GIFs.

Pragmatic Play introduced Spaceman in March 2022 as its first crash product: a multiplayer random number generator game with leaderboards and chat, supplied through its multi-product API. It ranked nineteenth at 20.01. SmartSoft’s JetX, launched in 2018, ranked thirty-ninth at 16.63.

The list contains crash products from several studios. Spribe also appears with Pilot Chicken, thirty-third at 17.70.

Similar candy themes, different mechanics

Sweet Bonanza and Sugar Rush share a candy theme but use different layouts and mechanics. Sweet Bonanza’s 2019 release used a 6x5 grid with falling fruit and candy symbols and cascading replacements. Sugar Rush, launched in 2022, used a 7x7 cluster-pay grid with position-based multipliers.

Both series later added 1000 versions. Sweet Bonanza 1000 launched in June 2024 and ranked tenth at 22.23; Sugar Rush 1000 launched in March 2024 and ranked twelfth at 21.79. Each kept the original’s basic layout while extending its features. Originals and sequels also appeared together elsewhere in Pragmatic Play’s catalogue: Gates of Olympus ranked sixth and Gates of Olympus 1000 ninth, while Starlight Princess ranked twenty-ninth and Starlight Princess 1000 thirty-second.

Pragmatic Play accounted for 19 entries. Beyond candy and fantasy themes, these included Big Bass Bonanza at fourteenth, Big Bass Splash at twenty-third, Buffalo King Megaways at eighteenth, 5 Lions Megaways at twenty-fifth and Great Rhino Megaways at thirty-sixth.

Cultural themes in international catalogues

PG Soft held eight positions. Fortune Tiger ranked fourth at 24.63 and Lucky Neko fifth at 23.97. A product document updated in 2025 classified Lucky Neko under Asian and Japanese themes. These labels describe the game’s design, not the location of its players.

Mahjong Ways and Mahjong Ways 2 ranked seventh and eighth, both at 22.63. The developer describes them as mobile- and HTML5-optimized slots using mahjong tile graphics, rather than multiplayer mahjong table games.

The other PG Soft entries were Fortune Ox at eleventh, Dragon Hatch at sixteenth, Ways of the Qilin at seventeenth and Sushi Oishi at forty-sixth.

Japanese imagery and cross-market partnerships

NetEnt’s Koi Princess ranked fifteenth at 20.55. Its Japanese-inspired imagery accompanied a cross-market development project: NetEnt’s 2015 annual report records co-development with William Hill and a November 2015 launch online and on UK betting-shop terminals.

Quickspin’s Sakura Fortune, twenty-first at 19.74, launched in April 2017 with cherry blossoms, a central heroine and a Japanese fantasy setting. It also introduced Quickspin’s Achievements Engine, a cross-game retention tool linking in-game events to rewards.

The two games paired Japanese imagery with different projects: operator co-development for Koi Princess and a new supplier tool for Sakura Fortune. NetEnt’s other entries covered different themes, including Starburst at twentieth, Divine Fortune at twenty-eighth and Twin Spin at forty-second.

The work behind live studio shows

Evolution contributed 11 titles, from traditional tables to studio shows. Crazy Time ranked thirteenth at 20.56. At its 2020 launch, Evolution called it the company’s most expensive game to date, following a year of development. It expanded the Dream Catcher wheel concept into a studio show with four bonus scenes. Dream Catcher ranked fortieth.

Lightning Roulette, launched in 2018 and ranked twenty-fourth, combined a physical roulette wheel with digital random multipliers, lighting and sound. Evolution’s 2023 annual report described Red Door Roulette, thirty-seventh, as combining elements of Lightning Roulette and Crazy Time. Monopoly Live ranked thirty-first.

Evolution’s other entries included Fan Tan at twenty-second, Speed Baccarat at twenty-seventh, Blackjack at thirtieth, Sic Bo at forty-fifth, Baccarat at forty-ninth and Lightning Dice at fiftieth. Pragmatic Play also appeared in live production, with Mega Wheel at thirty-fourth and Money Time at thirty-fifth.

Older titles and their wider business histories

Wanted Dead or a Wild ranked forty-first at 16.12. Hacksaw’s June 2025 prospectus said the 2021 release contributed about 14% of global GGR generated by its games in the quarter ending March 31, 2025. That figure concerns game-generated GGR worldwide, not Japanese market share or recognized corporate revenue.

Play’n GO’s Book of Dead ranked thirty-eighth. Released in January 2016, it received a tenth-anniversary campaign in February 2026, including physical character builds and retrospective marketing.

Nolimit City’s Tombstone RIP ranked forty-third, extending the fictional setting of the original Tombstone, released in May 2019. Other entries toward the end of the list included SmartSoft’s Balloon at forty-fourth, Pragmatic Play’s Andar Bahar at forty-seventh and PowerUP Roulette at forty-eighth.

Summary

The fifty titles show several ways suppliers build their catalogues: recognizable series, live studio shows, partner-developed games and continued investment in older releases. The strongest comparisons concern product design and business history, given the limited evidence of Japanese demand.

Research methodology

AskSpinner assembled 215 game–supplier candidates from cross-market game lists and supplier catalogues. For the August 21, 2026 snapshot, Ahrefs provided Japanese and global search estimates and related-query checks. The ranking combines available search signals with relevance to the Japan-focused candidate set. Only three of the 50 listed titles had Japan-specific core-query estimates, so this is a research comparison, not a ranking of games most played in Japan.
