Regulator news

Global gambling payment blocking tracker

Regulators increasingly go after the money rather than the websites. This tracker records actions in which a regulator, central bank, ministry or enforcement agency told banks, e-wallets or payment service providers to block, freeze or refuse gambling-related payments. Each row links to an official source. Figures are reported as the authority stated them; where an authority gave no number, we give none.

Methodology

  • We include an action only when an official source - a regulator, central bank, ministry, enforcement agency, court or official gazette - can be linked. Press reports are used only to find actions, never as the source of a row.
  • An action qualifies if it orders, requires or formally urges banks, e-wallets, card schemes or payment service providers to block, freeze, refuse or stop facilitating gambling-related payments, or sets a binding payment-method ban for gambling.
  • Dates are the date of the official document or release; where an authority announced a later effective date we say so in the measure column. The Nigeria row uses the date the notice was first reported, because the official post shows no exact date.
  • Figures are copied as stated by the authority, in the original currency (1 crore = 10 million rupees). We do not add up figures across countries because the measures differ.
  • Freezes in criminal or tax investigations are allegations at the investigation stage, not findings of guilt.
  • Norway publishes many individual decisions; we list the legal basis and the two most recent decisions rather than every one.
  • Actions we could not tie to an official document were left out. They are re-checked at each update.
  • Last updated November 3, 2026. We update this page weekly.
