Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) has destroyed 518 illegal slot machines, 203 of which were intended for use by minors, the ministry said in a press release published on the morning of November 2, 2026, Lima time.
According to the release, 315 of the machines had been seized during inspections carried out between 2009 and 2026 in the regions of Cusco, Pasco, Huánuco, Junín, Lima and La Libertad. The batch also included equipment handed over to the ministry by the Callao Tax Police (Policía Fiscal del Callao) and the national tax authority, SUNAT. The remaining 203 machines were ones intended for minors.
The destruction was carried out by Mincetur's Directorate General of Casino Games and Slot Machines (DGJCMT) under the supervision of a notary, as part of the government's National Tourism Order Plan. The ministry said the aim is to stop the machines from being used again in unauthorised premises.
Mincetur also said it has closed 15 slot-machine halls that were operating without authorisation in different parts of the country so far in 2026, including in hard-to-reach areas. In an October 11 release, the ministry had put the 2026 total at 14 clandestine slot halls and 19 illegal sports-betting premises.
The ministry carried out a similar exercise a year earlier: on October 31, 2025, it reported destroying 557 slot machines, 359 from unauthorised venues and 198 linked to minors.
Mincetur said that promoting, organising or taking part in illegal gambling can lead to prison sentences as well as administrative and financial penalties. Land-based slot machines in Peru are governed by Law 27153, while online casino and betting platforms need a separate authorisation under Law 31557, covered in AskSpinner's Peru online gambling licence guide. Earlier Mincetur enforcement is covered in our report on suspensions on Peru's gambling register.
