India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has brought Sourabh Chandrakar, the promoter of the Mahadev Online Book illegal betting syndicate, back to India from Oman following his extradition, the agency said on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

According to the CBI's statement, carried by public broadcaster DD News, a CBI team deputed to Oman escorted Chandrakar to India in coordination with other central agencies. He will undergo a medical examination and, once a transit remand is obtained, be taken to Raipur and produced before the CBI Special Court there.

Detained in Oman on a Red Corner Notice

The CBI said Chandrakar was traced and detained by the Royal Oman Police after an Interpol Red Corner Notice was issued against him. The CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) then sent extradition requests to Oman with the evidence gathered against him, working with Interpol's National Central Bureau and the Omani authorities. The agency thanked the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and the Royal Oman Police.

Chandrakar is wanted in two CBI cases in which chargesheets have already been filed, and in an ED case in which a prosecution complaint has been filed.

What the CBI alleges

The CBI took over the Mahadev Online Book cases at the request of the Chhattisgarh government. It says the syndicate was run from outside India and took bets on cricket, football, card games and other events through franchised "panels" and "branches". Proceeds were allegedly moved through mule bank accounts and sent abroad through hawala channels, and part of the money was allegedly paid to public servants as protection money.

The chargesheets invoke the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, Indian Penal Code provisions on criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery, and the Chhattisgarh Gambling (Prohibition) Act. Chandrakar is named as a key accused.

In March 2026, the ED's Raipur office provisionally attached 18 properties in Dubai and two in Delhi, worth about Rs1,700 crore, in the Mahadev money-laundering case (ED press release). Enforcement actions across the region are logged in AskSpinner's Asia gambling enforcement tracker.

The allegations have not been tested in court.
